Regional Psychiatrist in the Southern Regional Health Authority since 2001

She received her training at the University of the West Indies Mona where she gained a Bachelor of Sciences (Biochemistry and Zoology majors), Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Doctor of Medicine in Psychiatry (DM Psych.).

Prior to entering Medicine, she worked as a diagnostic radiographer at the University Hospital of the West Indies, 1982 -1985

SPECIAL INTERESTS

Child and Adolescent Mental Health

She enjoys working with the children and adolescents in the Child Guidance Clinics. She was instrumental in starting the Child Guidance Clinics at the May Penand Black River Hospitals.

Community Psychiatry

As Regional Psychiatrist, she works closely with other sectors of the community, such as the schools, Northern Caribbean University and other institutions of learning, the church, non-governmental organizations and police and correctional facilities in addressing mental health issues. She has made many presentations on topics such as The Management of Psychotic Disorders, Depression, Stress Management, Understanding Mental Health, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Coping Strategies in a Violent Environment, Components of Community Psychiatry, Common Emotional Disorders in Children and Adolescents and Emotional Intelligence.

Other Interests

She is a guest lecturer with the Ministry of Health In-service Training Unit which has responsibility for the training of Mental Health Officers (nurses who are specialized in caring for persons with mental illness).

She lectured in the course “Introduction to Psychiatry and Neuropharmacology, at the All American Institute of Medical Sciences (AAIMS) 2012 – 2015.

She is involved in private practice at the Gateway Medical Centre, Mandeville, Manchester, 2002 – present.

OTHER INTERESTS

She is registered with the Medical Council of Jamaica, Registration Number: 38197

She is a member of the Jamaica Psychiatric Association and the Medical Association of Jamaica.

She served on the board of management for the Ebenezer Rehabilitation Centre, Mandeville, a residential facility for homeless persons.

She is a board member of the Haile Clacken Bipolar Foundation, Jamaica 2018 – present.

She served as a board member of the Community Counselling and Restorative Justice Centre, Mandeville (2005 – 2012)

She also served as a board member of the National Children’s Home, Kingston (1998 – 2002)

She is a congregational steward, Sunday School teacher and chorister at the Ebenezer Methodist Church, Kingston.

She is married and enjoys time with her family.

She enjoys drama, floral arrangement and is a nature-lover.
