Zahra Burton – Investigative Journalist

Zahra Burton is a journalist with two decades of experience. She founded 18 Degrees North, an investigative television news program that aired across the Caribbean region and the Diaspora and has now morphed into an investigative online newsletter at 18dn.substack.com. The show has won several awards from the Press Association of Jamaica as well as the Jamaica Broilers Fair Play Awards. Prior to this, she worked for seven years at Bloomberg Television in New York City. There, she covered the stock market from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, as well as other major business stories including the global financial crisis, healthcare reform, the BP oil spill and the trial of convicted ponzi schemer, Bernard Madoff.

 

Earlier in her career, Burton was an anchor and reporter for Television Jamaica in her hometown of Kingston. Burton holds a master’s degree from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication. She earned her bachelor’s degree in marketing and international business from Florida International University. Burton was Miss Jamaica Universe in 2001.
