Mic Check – Education in Jamaica, Textbook Shortage A Travesty of Justice for Our Children – Damion Crawford

Damion Crawford October 8, 2022

Our special guest on Mic Check this morning is Damion O. Crawford. There are many ways to describe Mr Crawford however, the thumbprint of his character testifies of his resoluteness, his passion, honesty and thoughtfulness for those around him. Widely known as an educator, an entrepreneur and outspoken equal access advocate, Crawford was poised for leadership from as early as 2003 when he became the Guild President at the UWI School of Hospitality and a UWI Mona Hall Chairman. The expressive leader then catapulted his way to national prominence in 2004 after leading a much-publicized student protest at the University of the West Indies, Mona during his tenure as Guild President.

Crawford’s life in the political arena then evolved: the sharp thinker served two terms as President of the PNP’s Youth Organization, (PNPYO). He was elected a member of parliament representing Saint Andrew East Rural in December 2011. He concurrently served as Jamaican minister of state for tourism and entertainment. In 2017 he was appointed to the Senate of Jamaica where he served alongside an uncle, Ransford Braham. In September 2018, he along with Mike Phillips, and Phillip Paulwell were named vice presidents of the People’s National Party. He was recently reappointed to the senate after he resigned to contest a by-election in the Portland Eastern constituency.
