Holness Gets Tough, Plans To Strengthen JLP Disciplinary Mechanism

Written by on November 19, 2013

Jamaica Labour Party leader Andrew Holness says the party’s disciplinary mechanism will be strengthened so that those who breach the rules and protocols are held accountable.

According to Holness, members should respect the dispute resolution and disciplinary mechanisms of the party.

He also says he has taken note of the tendency of some members to run to the media to disclose internal matters, instead of using the established mechanisms.

Holness says this practice must stop.

Meanwhile, the JLP leader called for those who were against his leadership to acknowledge and respect the mandate given to him by delegates.

He emphasised that the sooner that this is done the quicker the party can move forward united.

And in an apparent reference to some members who declined his offer to be a part of the Shadow Cabinet, Holness said there is always space for those who want to serve.

According to him, he has not been vindictive towards those who did not support him but instead he has been accommodating.

Holness has charged delegates to begin reaching out to voters as the party positions itself to win State power at the next general election.

Holness was speaking to Jamaica Labour Party delegates during a forum at the University of Technology on Sunday.
