OCHO RIOS, St Ann
KIND and caring were some of the words used to describe Chad Young during a Thanksgiving Service for his life held at the Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Ocho Rios, St Ann, on Saturday, March 8.
Young, 27, died on February 27 after a brief illness. For the last four years, Young headed Grove Broadcasting Company which operates IRIE FM and ZIP 103 FM.
His wife, Karen Anderson Young, remembered him as her best friend. In a tribute read on her behalf, she said she met her husband on February 27, 2011 and lost him that same day in 2014.
She was commended by Sheldon March, Young’s close friend, for the strong support she gave her husband throughout his illness.
March, who cried throughout his tribute, described Young as a great friend.
“Chad was my best friend and brother,” he said. And although successful, he was never flashy and was dedicated to carrying on his father’s legacy, March recalled.
“He treated everyone with respect…He never saw himself above anyone,” he added.
Brian Schmidt, marketing manager of Irie FM, in his tribute, remembered his boss as happy-natured and very committed.
Other tributes came from D’Adra Williams, on behalf of ZIP FM, and Troy Moo Young, cousin and godfather.
Chad Adrian Young was born in Chicago, Illinois. He received his early education in Jamaica before returning to Chicago where he completed his secondary and university education. He took over the reins at Grove Broadcasting after his father’s passing in 2010 and remained until his death.
Young was buried next to his father on the premises of IRIE FM radio station.
